The last stand

Dear Paov,

The fight to protect old-growth forests is one of the issues the environmental movement in Canada was founded on four decades ago. Supporting our work to protect irreplaceable ancient forests might even be why you first began to take action with the Wilderness Committee.

Despite some wins over the years, old-growth logging continues across Canada. Even amidst a pandemic that’s turned our lives upside down, this battle has picked up momentum and reached a fever pitch in British Columbia.

Our latest paper, Time to Protect Old-Growth Forests, breaks down where things are at from an environmental and political standpoint, what’s at stake, and what’s required to end this battle once and for all.

Read the paper! From blockades in places like Fairy Creek on southern Vancouver Island and Argonaut Creek near Revelstoke to demonstrations outside the B.C. premier’s office to tens of thousands of messages sent to the government, people worldwide are making their opposition to continued old-growth logging heard and felt.

Thanks to people like you, we’ve helped keep this issue in the spotlight by documenting the impacts of old-growth logging on the ground, releasing original research and mapping, and exposing the provincial government’s doublespeak policy announcements.

Please read our publication and use the information at the end to write to your provincial representatives. This is our final chance to save the last of the greatest old-growth forests and shift to a forest industry that can be sustained. Read the paper! Now is our opportunity to ensure our children and grandchildren will be able to visit and walk among these age-old giants.

For the ancient forests,
