I cannot imagine how scary it must have been.
I cannot imagine how terrifying it must have been.
Police in full combat gear broke down the door and aimed guns at Wet’suwet’en land defenders and journalists inside a tiny house at Coyote Camp, along the edges of the Wedzin Kwa (Morice River) in northern British Columbia.
Twenty people were arrested over two days as the RCMP descended on Wet’suwet’en Yintah to remove people from their territory and make way for the Coastal GasLink pipeline. That pipeline would bring fracked gas from the Peace Region to LNG Canada in Kitimat.

I am furious and disgusted to once again see militarized police treating Indigenous elders, mothers and supporters like terrorists when they have been nothing but peaceful. Article 10 of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is perfectly clear that “Indigenous peoples shall not be forcibly removed from their lands or territories.” While both British Columbia and Canada have enshrined those words into law, this colonial violence continues.Your solidarity will keep these brave land defenders safe. Coastal GasLink, the RCMP and the provincial and federal governments need to know we’re watching them and we stand with folks on the ground. Find a solidarity action in your community or host one yourself. And in the meantime, let’s greet the people responsible for this latest violence with a mountain of faxes on their desks on Monday morning.
