Victoria Councillor Ben Isitt proposes emergency funding proposal to save School Crossing Guard Program

December 13, 2021

VICTORIA, BC – Victoria City Council is considering an emergency funding proposal from Councillor Ben Isitt to save the School Crossing Guard Program at schools within the City of Victoria.

On December 10, 2021, the Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association notified the Mayor and Council that the association will be suspending crossing guard services at Victoria schools after December 17 due to a lack of funds.

In response, Victoria City Councillor Ben Isitt has submitted a proposal for emergency funding of up to $50,000, which will be considered by councillors at a Special Council Meeting on Thursday, December 16.

“The School Crossing Guard Program provides an essential service for the safety and well-being of children and other members of the school communities,” says Isitt. “It is important for City Council to provide funds to ensure continuity of this safety program when schools reopen in January. I hope that my colleagues will support this funding proposal.”

Victoria City Council will consider Isitt’s emergency... funding proposal on Thursday, December 16 at 9:00 am.
