CAMPAIGN
BC’s crisis lines will be staying in the hands of not-for-profit and experienced service providers.
BC Health Coalition members know too well that
Request For Proposal (RFP) processes run a high risk of contracting
out public and non-profit services to private, for-profit, companies.
So in the fall when the BC government released a Notice to Vendor
announcing the Province’s intention to put crisis line services to
competitive bid, our coalition mobilized to save these lifesaving
services at a time when demand is at an all-time
high.
Working alongside the BC Crisis Line Network, our
voices reached Members of the Legislative Assembly, and we earned
support from several cabinet ministers. On January 3rd, the BC Crisis
Line Network was advised that the Province will be issuing... a Call for
Offers directly to existing service providers, ensuring that crisis
line services will remain a crucial part of the non-profit sector.
When we come together, we win.

CAMPAIGN
The Centre for Gender & Sexual Health
Equity and Sanctuary Health sent
an open letter to the BC government, calling to
immediately end the costly and discriminatory policy that requires new
immigrants to BC to wait three months for health insurance. The
letter, signed by advocacy groups, such as the BC Health Coalition,
unions and community service organizations, is based on a
growing body
of research that shows the policy
disproportionately harms immigrant women and their children, and
violates their human rights. The letter follows a petition calling
on the government to repeal the policy, which was signed by 400
individuals and groups.
UPDATE
Canadian Health Coalition members, along
twenty allied organizations and public health care experts, have
written to Prime Minister Trudeau and his key ministers, including
Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos, seeking urgent financing for a
universal, single-payer public pharmacare program in the upcoming
Fiscal Update and Budget 2022.
