Confirmed: Season 2 of the Fairy Creek Blockade
BC Court of Appeal has extended the injunction until September 26, 2022
Last week we heard that Teal Jones won their appeal – the B.C. Court of Appeal judges have upheld the injunction and it will be extended until September 26th. That means that industry and the RCMP will be back in full force.
While disappointing, this decision doesn't come as a surprise. The colonial government of British Columbia is built on resource extraction. This government has no interest in truth and reconciliation, they have no interest in saving our forests, and they have no interest in true democracy. They are more interested in upholding the rights of one corporation than those of thousands of citizens. The people of this province don’t want old growth logging. They want it protected.
Despite campaign promises and wave after wave of deferral announcements from BC’s NDP government, not one hectare of old growth has received permanent protection. Even now, in winter, we witness industry hauling out old growth and mature trees.
Teal Jones was able to clear cut 475 acres of old growth in the past 10 months. If we stand aside, Teal Jones will clear cut another 500 acres of old growth this year (equivalent to approx. 378 football fields).
We have to keep fighting.
This is a volunteer organization run on passion and dedication. Like everyone, we are learning. We evolve, we regroup, we find new strategies, and we keep showing up. Come spring, we must return to the frontlines. And we need you all with us!
STAY TUNED.
Looking after our Forest Defenders - We're 81% to our goal, only 48 hours left!
★ LAST CHANCE to contribute directly to frontline defenders through our winter fundraiser. We're at 81% of our goal - we know you've given a lot, but if you can, please help us support our long haul forest protectors.
Every single dollar donated to this winter campaign will directly support one of the following:
-
Physical needs for people still at camps
-
Reimbursements for lost, stolen, and damaged property
-
Direct support for frontline defenders who are healing from experiences at camp during enforcement.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
▻ Attend an event or organize a solidarity action of your own.
▻ Sign-up for your “Protect Old Growth” lawn or window sign (Greater Victoria area only at this time)
▻ Follow Save Old Growth - a new student-led civil resistance movement that that is disrupting the Trans Canada Highway near Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, and Revelstoke, with the frequency and scale of actions escalating until all old growth logging is stopped. The government has an option to fulfill its election promises or send nonviolent people on the motorways to jail.
▻ Keep the pressure up: Call John Horgan and demand real action on old growth protection. Call him every day: 250-387-1715.
▻ Stay tuned - We’ll be putting the call out for support at FAIRY CREEK BLOCKADE AND OTHER CAMPS as soon as logging resumes in the spring.
