Hi Paov,
The Fraser Estuary in BC has supported marine life and First Nations communities since time immemorial. But it’s at risk.
The Port of Vancouver is planning to dredge and fill the ecologically significant Fraser River Estuary with cement, in order to build an island 250 football fields in size for a new container terminal.
We have a chance right now, while public consultations are still open this week, to stop this disastrous project in its tracks. With the appointment of the new federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault we can use this consultation to get the project on his radar!
Just last week we got new information that the federal government withheld critical evidence of how harmful this project is to western sandpipers and other shorebirds in the federal review. Even then, the review still found there will be significant adverse environmental effects to wetlands, barn owls, Dungeness crab, chinook salmon and southern resident killer whales.
