Let’s fight for biodiversity today and every day!

Hi Paov,

Biodiversity, or biological diversity, is the variety of living things all around us. But more than that, it’s the water you drink, the food you eat and the air you breathe. Everyday life is made possible by the work of a billion living creatures, from bacteria and fungi to pollinators and trees.

Tomorrow is the International Day for Biological Diversity when we celebrate the ecological foundations we owe our existence. Except there’s a huge problem. Right now, over 1,900 species and subspecies at risk in BC remain helpless. It’s time to change that.

Join the movement Protecting biodiversity means keeping populations of native wildlife healthy while also saving species from extinction. Like the at-risk marbled murrelet. The marbled murrelet is clumsy. It looks like a football when tumbling through the canopy to its nest. Given it nests in old-growth branches on the coast, it’s at risk due to industrial old-growth logging. We’re headed to court against the federal government for failing to protect the critical habitats of migratory birds across Canada, including the marbled murrelet. Southern mountain caribou have lived on this land for 1.6 million years. From their importance to Indigenous communities to their tie to old-growth forests, they’re woven into the fabric of the land. We’ve got our eyes monitoring their critical habitat and watching for industry destruction. We’ll be headed out on the ground this summer to highlight disastrous industrial plans and will be doing everything we can to stop them. There are only three spotted owls remaining in the wild in Canada. As we push the federal government to release a recovery plan this spring for this critically endangered species, we are working with First Nations to stop the BC government from logging their old-growth forest home without any further delay. While we’re fighting for species at risk in the court and on the land, will you help from home?

Join the movement to protect killer whales, caribou, grizzly bears, foxes, eagles and everything in between. Be a part of this growing movement Ongoing efforts from people like you will make governments act for endangered species!
