Dear Friends of SJS,

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support, encouragement, and sage advice that you have provided to me and to Social Justice Studies over my past 10 years as Director of SJS. This position has been one of the highlights of my academic career. After 31 years at UVic, I am retiring as of June 30, 2022 and will be stepping down as Director of SJS.

I am pleased to say that I am leaving Social Justice Studies in excellent hands. Dr. Nancy Clark, Assistant Professor in Nursing, has enthusiastically agreed to take on the role of Director of SJS as of July 1, 2022. Dr. Clark works in the areas of community-engaged, immigrant & refugee mental health; intersectionality, social justice, equity, ethnography, and arts-based methods. While fairly new to Victoria, Dr. Clark is well aware of the importance for all of us (students, faculty, academic and community activists and advocates) to work together to address the issues underlying the many social injustices we confront in the world today.... SJS will continue to be a space to share ideas, initiatives and relationship building for promoting social justice through civic engagement and global citizenship as well as through valuing the equal rights and dignity of all persons. I ask that you assist and support Dr. Clark in whatever way possible as she becomes more familiar with the program, its faculty, students, and community members and partners.
