Celebrate Earth Day on Commercial Drive - Monday, April 21
Hi PAOV,
It’s that time of year again when we get to take over a park and combine our voices in solidarity!
Yes indeed – it’s Earth Day next week, and on Easter Monday we’ll be out enjoying ourselves at my favourite annual festival in Vancouver. This is the fourth time the event has been created by the brave and adventurous students that are Youth for Climate Justice Now. Yet again they have pulled together a fantastic and colourful event with lots of music, costumes and art to simulate the senses.
There is always a celebratory feel to the Earth Day festival, and this year we’ve got one more reason to celebrate. Just this past Saturday, the good folks of Kitimat, BC voted NO to Enbridge’s Northern Gateway tar sands pipeline! I am not saying that’s the end of the matter – far from it – but it’s a small victory in what has been a long battle to preserve a healthy coast and a healthy climate. It’s certainly a victory worth celebrating!
I don't know about you, but events like the Earth Day celebration are really important for me. They allow me to enjoy the best part of fighting for climate action: experiencing all of the wonderful people that come to participate because they care about the planet and about life itself. Having so many active, engaged folks in one space on any given day puts hope in my heart, and a smile on my face.
I would love for you to experience the fun side of environmental action by joining us on Commercial Drive this long weekend!
