Here's how a small community is working to protect wetland wildlife ...
DONATE NOW
Hi Paov,
Hot off the digital press, we just released a new blog and we want you to be the first to know about it today – on World Water Day!
This year, World Water Day is raising awareness and inspiring action to protect clean water in communities all over the planet.
Communities across BC are seeing loss of wetlands, forests and wild spaces near their homes due to the actions of big corporations, logging companies and developers, combined with inaction or ineffective policies from our governments. Their concerns range from water supplies being contaminated, to water shortages, to the destruction of watersheds and wetland habitats that wildlife rely on.
Recently, our team sat down with Cara Cornell from the Fraser Valley who is standing up for wetland wildlife along the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion (TMX) route near her home.

TMX construction is impacting local waterways and a wetland area that provides habitat for a variety of birds, squirrels, salamanders and many other wildlife species.
“I have to speak for the birds and the animals. I see them every day. This is their home too.”
With funding support from West Coast’s Environmental Dispute Resolution Fund (EDRF), Cara and her group received the legal help they needed to challenge pipeline construction practices that threatened the wetland.

Because of caring supporters like you, West Coast Environmental Law is able to provide legal support to individuals, community groups, First Nations and grassroots organizations that are raising their voices against environmental harms.
And today, on World Water Day, we want to encourage you to take action in your own lives to protect and conserve water in your own community.
Cara's group is just one of many BC groups and communities we're supporting through our
Access to Justice programs, which provide resources and legal tools for British Columbians to protect land, air, water and public health. In the coming weeks, we'll continue to keep you updated on these important programs, including West Coast’s Environmental Dispute Resolution Fund.
With gratitude,
The Team at West Coast Environmental Law
