Support Kwakiutl: no old-growth logging without community consent

Call on BC to halt controversial old-growth logging
Hi Paov,
Hereditary leadership, matriarchs and community members of the Kwakiutl First Nation are calling for a halt to old-growth logging on their territory — and they need our support!
The Kwakiutl have had a declared moratorium on old-growth logging in place for several years and have called on the province to defer all old-growth logging on their lands. Despite this, the government continues to issue logging permits and clearcutting is underway in the culturally significant Suquash Creek area, not far from the Kwakiutl community of T’sakis (Fort Rupert) southeast of Port Hardy on the north end of Vancouver Island.
Community leaders are calling on Premier David Eby and Forest Minister Bruce Ralston to halt all old-growth logging on Kwakiutl territory and asking others to amplify their message.
Will you write to the BC NDP government today and demand they honour the request from Kwakiutl to halt old-growth logging?
Yes I'll stand with Kwakiutl

Continued logging of at-risk old-growth forests is wrong, and this destruction happening against the wishes of local First Nations is wrong.
Like most of Vancouver Island, the Suquash Creek area has been heavily logged and the remaining old-growth forests contain high biodiversity. Recently logged areas include stands the BC Government has earmarked for deferral through the Old Growth Strategic Review process.
The BC NDP promised to save old-growth forests and the continued approval of old-growth logging threatens sensitive ecosystems and drives conflict in communities.
It’s time for Premier Eby and his government to honour their promises on old-growth and Indigenous Rights and halt logging around Suquash Creek immediately!
