Defend our climate May 10!
To ,

First of all, Happy Earth Day! I hope you took time today to celebrate nature and do something positive for the planet.

Unfortunately, it seems the Canadian government doesn't feel the same way. Today they announced they have downgraded protection of the North Pacific humpback whale, at the very time that the Enbridge pipeline and tankers project would pose a serious threat to their survival and recovery. It is yet another piece of a larger pattern of the federal government gutting environmental regulations, muzzling scientists, denying public participation, and disregarding their own laws for species-a-risk, all in the service of promoting tar sands pipelines.

Yet, while the politicians give the permits, it is the people who give the permission, and British Columbians from all walks of life have been clear that there is no social license for Enbridge in this province. The Federal Cabinet is expected to make a decision in June on Enbridge's Northern Gateway proposal, and now is the time to continue making our voices heard.

, on May 10, join others across the country for a National Day of Action against runaway fossil fuel development and subsequent climate change. Find an event near you or organize one in your community.

We are coming together on May 10th not just to say "no" to destructive energy projects, but also to promote a positive vision for our province and country. By moving away from fossil fuels, we are saying "yes" to a future that includes jobs with fair wages, tourism, clean energy and a green economy that will grow and strengthen over time.

Last November thousands of Canadians rallied, connecting our movement from coast to coast. Let’s get more people involved this year–we need all hands on deck! Help promote this national day of action by organizing an event in your community, sharing on social media, and by forwarding this message to your networks.
