Hi Paov,
Tomorrow, June 21, marks National Indigenous People’s Day in what’s known as Canada. The Wilderness Committee unequivocally supports the rights of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit people and communities, and we celebrate the incredible contributions of Indigenous people in all aspects of life across the lands we work on.
We also understand our responsibility to recognize and confront ongoing colonialism where we encounter it and to work hard to decolonize our views, approach and activism.

All land and waters in Canada are within the territory of a First Nation, Métis or Inuit people, and respecting this is a key component of speaking up for the environment. Our efforts to safeguard ecosystems and biodiversity and fight climate change must also champion Indigenous rights and centre solutions that uplift Indigenous people everywhere.
On National Indigenous People’s Day, please take time to celebrate Indigenous people in your community and reflect on your responsibilities to advance decolonization.
