Today, the BC government released a draft Biodiversity and Ecosystem Health Framework, which sets a course toward legally establishing biodiversity and ecosystem health as “overarching priorities” for all sectors. West Coast
applauds this move toward ecosystem-based planning and management in BC, while noting that immediate actions must be taken to halt nature loss and recognize Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas.
A new survey finds that more than two thirds of Canadians oppose the federal government writing off billions of debt related to the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion (TMX), and that 60% of respondents want mostly oil companies to pay for TMX.

Earlier this summer, the Lower Fraser Floodplains Coalition convened leadership and senior staff from 20 local governments, 14 First Nations, 2 regional governments, many provincial and federal agencies, and agriculture associations to talk about opportunities, priorities and next steps for regional collaboration on flood resilience.
