Paov,
Last Monday, we did something truly important. Despite heavy rain, members of the BC Health Coalition stood together under red umbrellas, a powerful symbol of a public health care system that is there for all of us when we need it.
When people come together and
demand better, change becomes possible.
Our rally
outside MP Hedy Fry’s office in Vancouver broke the federal
government’s silence. After hearing directly from advocates, workers,
and community members, MP Fry addressed the crowd and, in front of
eight journalists, made clear that Alberta’s legislation would bring
in two tier health care.
MP Fry, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, stated:
"There is no doubt that [Alberta's Bill 11] absolutely contravenes the Canada Health Act.”
This is an important step but it is not enough.
Acknowledging a
problem is one thing. Taking decisive action is another.
If one day of action could get the
federal government to speak out after months of silence, imagine what
consistent organizing could do.
So I am asking you to stand with us. Become a member and, if you can, make a small donation to help grow this movement and increase the pressure.
DonateWe must build on this momentum and
demand real federal action. The government has a responsibility to
defend public health care. But they will not act unless we push them
to.
Join us today.
