LNG Pipedreams: Fracked Futures and Community Resistance
Hi PAOV,
[The original email subject heading read May 14th but the date of the event is Wed. May 21st – apologies for the error!]
The BC government has opened its doors for the industry’s rush to frack and export liquefied natural gas (LNG), and next week industry and government are having a large get-together in Vancouver to celebrate the province's so-called “gas boom”.
We think it’s a great time to counter their arguments with some real facts on what LNG means for British Columbia's communities, our water and the climate.
Next Wednesday, May 21st we’re heading to downtown Vancouver for a People’s Forum on fracking, and the false promise of LNG profits that is driving the rush to frack for gas.
We expect that the information put out about the industry in and around their conference will speak of the windfall wealth from LNG sales offshore, without outlining any of the downsides. But to develop the LNG industry to the level they’re talking about, we will have to turn our backs on BC’s targets for reducing our climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions. We will also contaminate massive amounts of our freshwater.
You’re invited to come learn the latest details and share your views on fracking and the province’s LNG plans at next week’s event, co-hosted by the Wilderness Committee and the Council of Canadians.
