Subject: Fwd: "Dispossessed but Defiant" exhibit at Cedar Hill URGENT
Hi there, might we garner some support ?
The above mentioned photo display, featuring First Nations, South Africa and Palestine, opened last night at the Cedar Hill Rec Centre on Finlayson. It will be up for 2 weeks. The theme is looking at the ways of, and similarities of, dispossession in widely different cultures through time. The photos are quite amazing and evocative.
...
This was the opening night for the launch of a hoped for national and international tour, so we feel it is important that right from the start, this exhibition be supported, and the Zionists do not undermine the achievement of this show.
A few hours before it was due to open, the Zionists demanded it be closed and taken down. Frances stood firm, and eventually the head of the Arts Council came round and we opened as scheduled.
About a dozen Zionists phoned everyone - Frank Leonard, the mayor of Saanich, the arts council contact at Cedar Hill - Nicole (phoned at her home the evening before by the Zionists), Bob Williams the head of the arts council,
and the Zionists threatened violence if the exhibit wasn't taken down.
I suggested to Frances that by phoning the following, and she agrees, that your support would be greatly appreciated. The event runs for two weeks, and is permanently open to the same hours as the rec centre, if you wish to see it first.
Names to contact: Frank Leonard this morning, his phone number is
250-475-5510. Bob Williams email:
