Join us on Saturday to stand up for BC’s parks!

China Beach (Ruth Hartnup)

Hi PAOV,

Like many British Columbians, I’ll be headed with friends to a BC provincial park this coming Saturday, July 19. But this time, picnics and swimming are not in our plans.

Instead, we will be setting up a table and banner to raise awareness about new legislation that poses a serious threat to the province’s protected areas. We’ll be handing out postcards addressed to BC’s Minister of Environment, calling on her to repeal the Park Amendment Act – a recent law that makes it easier to put industrial developments like logging roads and oil pipelines in our parks. It’s a bad law and we want it gone.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Saturday – Canada Parks Day – we’ll be at China Beach in Juan de Fuca Provincial Park, located on the west coast of southern Vancouver Island. We think this park, and all of BC’s beautiful provincial parks, are worth standing up for. Will you join us?

If you can’t make it to China Beach on Saturday, there are several other events happening at different parks in BC. Click here for details and a full list of parks and contacts, or visit the Facebook event page.

You can also take action to protect BC’s parks by sending a message to the provincial government. For more info on the Park Amendment Act and links to online actions, click here. If you’d like to distribute postcards about this issue in your community, please reply to this email or call our Victoria office at 250-388-9292.

Let’s show some love for our parks, and help give them the protection they deserve.
