Call to Artists: Communities in Resistance and the Art of Solidarity

Are you a visual or spoken word artist? Your art is needed to show solidarity with people who are in danger of intimidation and violence as they work to protect the air, land and water in their communities impacted by Canadian mining operations.

Approximately 70% of the world’s mining companies are registered in Canada, and in many cases Canadian mining operations are associated with human rights abuses and environmental degradation. The artist is invited to investigate the subject and then create a work that reflects their response to the situation. Write to us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Your submission will include:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • The size, medium and title of your piece
  • A good quality image of your work (less than 1MB) in attachment to your application email

Submission deadline is Friday, September 19th, 2014 but we encourage earlier submissions.

Acceptance notices will be sent by Friday, October 3rd, 2014.

(MJAC retains the right to refuse any submission if deemed inappropriate or offensive.)

The art show team welcomes smaller paintings, drawings, collages and other works on paper in addition to larger creations. While the piece needs to to be wired to hang from a hook or picture rail, formal mat and frame are not essential.
