Voting in the next municipal election just got a bit easier for those who live in the City of Victoria or Saanich but work or study at the UVic Campus. Both the City and the District of Saanich have announced that they will be setting up advance polls on the UVic Campus, marking the first time that the City has established advance polls outside a municipal boundary. Last week’s unanimous ruling by the Supreme Court of Canada to support the Tsilhqot’in First Nation to... land title in South Central BC is significant on many fronts. In this Times Colonist article, John Borrows, Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Law at the University of Victoria, claims that it is one of the most significant decisions the court has made in an aboriginal rights case. This potentially effects land claim cases in British Columbia and beyond by heightening the level of consultation which the government must make with Aboriginal groups in regards to economic development on aboriginal land. GMO OMG COMMUNITY MOVIE NIGHT
