Hi everyone,
Thanks to those who have participated with us and our campus partners in the many events happening this week as part of Campus Sustainability Week. Highlights include:
Monday - Over 100 people attending a lively public talk “Could BC Become a 100% Renewable Energy Region?”
Tuesday – Coffee cup mascot “Muggo” making his campus debut to the delight of many people sporting their own reusable coffee mugs, giving him a hug and getting free pizza and coffee coupons.
Wednesday – Bike to Campus Day with many events to celebrate and support cycling to campus including over 40 people attending our noon hour cycling safety seminar.
Still to Come:
TODAY is Earthfest, hosted by the UVic Sustainability Project, 12 to 8:30 PM in SUB. The day features a panel discussion (1 to 3 PM) on how we can collaboratively... work to solve local and global sustainability challenges, workshops with various environmental leaders (12 to 5 PM), a Skype call with Green Party Leader Elizabeth May from Ottawa (5 PM) and keynote address with Roy Brooke, together with food, poetry, music and displays from local environmental organizations and sustainable vendors. Note that the ECOSPEAK presentations have been cancelled (we’ll try again next year).
Friday – Fall Harvest Lunch, Noon to 1:30 PM, Cadboro Commons, Campus View Room. Join us for a tasty feast of local and organic edibles and a chance to learn more about UVic’s food purchasing practices that support our local farmers and food producers. Draw prizes too!
