Last month the People's Climate March, the NYC Climate Convergence, and Flood Wall Street showed that as the climate crisis intensifies so too is resistance against those responsible. On our next SCNCC North America call we will discuss ways of ramping up the struggle against a system that can bailout banks but not the people or their climate; that has money for war and oil subsidies but not for green jobs or housing. More and more people are realizing we need a new system. On Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman described "system change not climate change" as the mantra of the People's Climate March. The question is, what kind of system are we fighting for? We've long believed that ecological transformation cannot be accomplished without social transformation; a fundamental shift towards democracy, workers power, indigenous sovereignty,peace and disarmament. Only through a cooperative, democratic economy can we begin to heal the systemic rift between humans and their environment. We call the society we are fighting for ecosocialism.
In order to achieve this goal we strive towards forging a mass movement built on theory, action and debate; radical climate praxis. With this goal in mind SCNCC invites you to join us, we've got big plans in mind for the next year. On Monday's call we'll review our organizing principles for new comers and to refresh them for longstanding participants. We'll provide helpful pointers on starting a SCNCC chapter where you live and recruiting new participants where we are already rooted. Most importantly we want to hear from you.
What is your assessment of last months historic march, direct action and convergence? Where do we go from here? What struggles are you currently engaged in or that you see as a priority?
