The SPOKES bike drive held on Saturday January 31 was a success. Over 70 bikes were donated! Thanks to everyone who brought in a bike! UVic’s Centre for Social and Sustainable Innovation at the Gustavson School of Business is working on a project that would help disseminate Student sustainable-living tips through a new resource designed to help students live the way they want: with minimal impact on the planet.

SACRED ECOLOGY

Monday February 2nd, 6:30PM

University of Victoria Chapel

Join the UVic Chaplan for an introduction to the practices of sacred ecology, every Monday from 6:30pm to 8pm (except Family Day). Engage in an ecologically sensitive spirituality for these times, and explore an emerging worldview that integrates the wisdom of spiritual traditions, science and systems theory, eco-psychology, deep ecology and our own local skills and knowledge. Continuous and accelerating changes to technologies, products, and markets not only undermine profits, but are at the heart of significant social and environmental costs. Using the Coca-Cola Company as an example, Dr. Bansal will show that corporations must discriminate between the activities in which they need to respond quickly and those that require long-term investments for stability and sustainability. A NEW INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE TREATY? A POST-LIMA REPORT BACK AND A PRE-PARIS COUNTDOWN

This event will include three talks: one, by Elizabeth May, will focus on the coming climate negotiations, another , by Guy Dauncey, on why Canada must go fossil-fuel free and 100% renewable by 2040, and the final talk by Ken Wu is titled “Politics, Solutions, and Broad-based Movements: Directions of the climate change movement.”
