BC’s species at risk featured at VIMFF

Species at Risk at VIMFF

Hello PAOV,

Did you know that BC is home to over 1,900 species at risk? That’s more endangered species than any other Canadian province. And right now, there’s no stand-alone provincial law to protect them.

Over the past few years, the Wilderness Committee has teamed up with wildlife biologists and filmmakers to produce a series of short films featuring some of British Columbia’s most intriguing endangered species. The goal is to showcase these incredible plants and animals, and to spread awareness about the lack of legal protection for species at risk in BC.

We’re thrilled that our films will be featured this year during the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF), which takes place from February 13 to 21 at local venues in the Vancouver area.

On Tuesday, February 17, I’d like to invite you to join us for an evening of film and discussion about threatened species in BC!

After the film screening, a panel of filmmakers, biologists and Wilderness Committee staff will discuss the status of species at risk in BC. We’ll talk about what can be done to protect them, and about the power of visual storytelling to raise awareness and inspire change to save endangered wildlife.

I’d really love to see you there!

You can RSVP and invite your friends via the Facebook event page.

For more information or to purchase tickets, click here to visit the VIMFF website.

While you’re at it, check out the rest of the VIMFF program – the lineup features a variety of unique documentaries, short films and guest speakers, with a focus on mountain life and the outdoors!

You can find out more about our work to protect endangered species on our campaign website, www.protectbiodiversity.ca, along with news, videos and other helpful resources.

Here at the Wilderness Committee, we’ve got a special place in our hearts for BC’s threatened wildlife. By showcasing these amazing species on the big screen, we hope even more people will recognize the value of protecting them with provincial legislation.

For the wild,

Gwen Barlee | Policy Director
Wilderness Committee
