My vote on Bill C-51

Since I first hosted a townhall on Bill C-51 on February 27th, I've heard from thousands of constituents who share my concerns about how this bill could undermine our civil liberties and our safety.

Last night, I was proud to cast my vote for Victoria against Bill C-51 at its final reading.

While it was deeply disappointing to see every Liberal and Conservative vote to pass this dangerous bill, I am proud of the entire Official Opposition team, which has fought C-51 every step of the way in the House, in the committee on public safety and through community outreach all across Canada. When it came to the final vote, New Democrats provided 94 percent of all the votes to defeat Bill C-51.

Next Thursday, May 14, Canada's Leader of the Opposition, Tom Mulcair, will be joining me in Victoria for a major public event. Click here for details and to RSVP.
Upcoming community events

On Saturday, May 9, join me at Quadra Village Day, 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Kings Road between Quadra and Dowler.

The Victoria Highland Games begin on May 16 at Topaz Park.

The Victoria Day Parade will take place on May 18, starting at 9 a.m. on Douglas Street.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 23, the Selkirk Waterfront Festival will be on at Waterfront Crescent and Selkirk Green Park.

The Swiftsure International Yacht Race returns to Victoria's Inner Harbour May 23 to 25.
