When we think about the summer of 2014, one thing looms large: Israel’s brutal all-out assault on Gaza. But something else happened last summer -- something huge. Last June, the Presbyterian Church (USA) voted to divest from companies that profit from the Occupation -- and we were honored to stand by their side. That victory sent an incredible message -- that faith communities around the world won’t stay silent when Israel commits human rights violations.
Our movement is growing, and the Presbyterian Church isn’t the only faith group stepping up and debating these tough issues. Next weekend, JVP delegations will be travelling to Cleveland and Salt Lake City to support our partners in the United Church of Christ and the Episcopal Church as they seek to align their values with their investments.
And this is just the beginning. This summer, JVP is leading an effort to launch the first-ever Interfaith Network for Justice in Palestine. When faith communities like the Presbyterian Church stand up for peace and justice, we need to have their back. When the defenders of Israel’s illegal occupation come calling, we need to show that thousands of people of all faiths and other people of consceic support divestment.

We'll be a force to reckon with. We’ve already built partnerships with other faith communities, but this network will deepen them, and create intentional, sustained relationships.
But this network isn’t just about building community, it’s about fighting for justice. So we’ll work together to create coordinated action in times of crisis, and we’ll provide a home where all those who care about peace can find reflection and spiritual sustenance. We’ll create opportunities to share our skills and collectively build our organizing capacity to win -- in churches, at colleges, and in Congress.
Add your name now and share why your faith tradition inspires you to work for justice in Palestine.
We need you, Mic. The organizations who oppose us have a lot of money and power to throw around. Last week, Sheldon Adelson held a gathering of far-right groups and committed $50 million to fighting BDS. Netanyahu announced that the Israeli government itself plans to spend $25 million. But while they might have money, they don’t have what we have: the energy of thousands of faith leaders, communities, and activists like you. Through the Interfaith Network for Justice in Palestine, we’re coming together for fellowship and understanding, and to the status quo of occupation and dispossession.
Last summer, the Presbyterian church took a brave and difficult step, and voted to divest from companies that profit from Israel’s occupation. We were there with them, listening, supporting, strategizing -- and yes, praying. This summer, we’re building our Interfaith Network so we can do it all over again, with our equally cherished partners in the Episcopal and UCC movements.
When we fight and stand together, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.
Onward,
