We are pleased to announce the 6th Annual Latin American and Spanish Film Week at Cinecenta in two weeks time, from Tuesday September 22 to Sunday 27.
All films are shown with English subtitles. Regular prices apply, and tickets will be available at the box office at the screening of each film.
The event features some of the most exciting films produced today in the Hispanic world. We are looking forward to another great event.
Cinecenta has already posted in its website the titles of the six films, plus synopses and trailers: http://www.cinecenta.com.You can also take a look at the website of the Hispanic Film Society of Victoria, which is organizing the event: hispfilmvic.ca.
This year we are inviting Argentine director Hernán Vilchez to present his documentary Huicholes: los últimos guardianes del peyote. This movie will open the Film Week on September 22 and will include a Q&A session.
He will also deliver two presentations: “Approaches to documenting Indigenous worldviews,” as part of the Department of Indigenous Education Speaker Series. It will take place in the First Peoples House Ceremonial Hall on Tuesday September 22 from 2 to 3.30 PM (my thanks to Dr. Carmen Rodriguez for arranging this talk).
The second talk is entitled “Directing film documentaries in Latin America”. It will take place on Wednesday, September 23 in Cornett A125 from 2:30 to 3:20 PM. It is presented by the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies (my thanks to Dr. Beatriz de Alba-Koch for the coordinating this event).
Please see the attached posters to get more information about the Film Week and Mr. Vilchez’s talks.
Please help us spread the word among students, faculty, staff and friends.
Thanks
