Join us for FREE on March 15th, from 12 – 1pm, for the first of BCSEA’s exciting 2016 Webinar Series.
The electricity system is changing. Oil and gas prices crashed in the past month and all eyes turned to the sustainable energy industry. How did B.C.’s energy industry and the B.C. Government react? What is changing globally, in sustainable energy resources and the greentech industry?
In the first of BCSEA’s 2016 Webinar Series, Merran Smith, Executive Director of Clean Energy Canada (CEC), will share her insights on global trends in renewable energy. She will draw... from Clean Energy Canada’s report, A Clean Economy and Jobs Plan for B.C. and CEC’s Tracking the Energy Revolution Global 2015.
Bringing it back home, Merran will tie the global changes in energy production to B.C.’s current, shaky status as a Climate Leader. With B.C.’s carbon pollution increasing, climbing by 1.5 MTCO2 Eq. (equal to 400,000 new cars on B.C.’s roads) from 2011 to 2013, the Provincial Government needs to do more to retain its reputation as a leader in progressive energy solutions.
It’s not all bleak though! B.C. has never been in a better place to reverse this trend and prosper while doing it. Renewable energy costs are plummeting, new clean energy markets are growing and B.C.’s climate leadership team delivered a set of recommendations to the British Columbia government on how to harness clean energy to drive down carbon pollution while growing the economy. The government has also opened itself to public consultation, requesting input from British Columbians until March 25th.
How will the government act on those recommendations? How can British Columbians give their input? What can they say to ensure a clean energy future for B.C.?
This exciting webinar will tackle these big questions, and aims to educate British Columbians on the interconnectedness of B.C. and the global energy industry, as well as the importance of public input to the Provincial Government.
The webinar will finish with a Q&A session with Merran and BCSEA's own Policy Director Tom Hackney. If you haven’t already, check out BCSEA's article on the Climate Leadership Plan, written by Tom Hackney, with our recommendations for the public's input.

Fun with numbers: Shaking the fossil fuel addiction
There has been a lot in the news recently about the need to address climate change and reduce our carbon emissions, in BC, in Canada and around the world.
How easy – or difficult – will it be for us to change to a low carbon energy system?
Loads more interesting articles await in the BCSEA News!
