Tell Minister McKenna to say NO to Woodfibre LNG
Hello PAOV,
Just north of Vancouver, mountains rise out of the Pacific waters known as the Salish Sea to form North America’s southernmost fjord – BC’s stunning Howe Sound.
After a century of industrial pollution, the marine ecosystem here is finally bouncing back. But the proposed Woodfibre LNG terminal puts it all at risk again.
Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change Catherine McKenna is currently considering whether or not to grant the Woodfibre proposal its federal environmental certificate, and she needs to hear from you now!
Woodfibre LNG would be smack dab in the middle of Pacific herring habitat, with a water intake for the plant’s cooling system just 50 metres away from where the fish are known to spawn.
Where herring go, salmon, dolphins and orcas follow. It is the herring’s return that helped revitalize the whole marine ecosystem of Howe Sound. They cannot be put at risk once again!
Meanwhile, the impact of LNG on the climate is a complete disaster. This project, while smaller than other proposed terminals, is the “Trojan horse” of a brand new dirty fossil fuel industry in BC.
Please take a moment to write to Minister McKenna and urge her to save Howe Sound by withholding federal permits for Woodfibre LNG.
