Hi PAOV,

It’s not every day that the Prime Minister and all the Premiers come to talk climate change in your backyard.

Next Thursday, Prime Minister Trudeau will be hosting a First Ministers Meeting with Premiers in Vancouver, and they’ll be focusing on Canada’s plan to address climate change. We’re going to take this opportunity to show how rising seas will flood the places Vancouverites hold dear.

Come join us Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at starting at 5 p.m. for a fun volunteer night to paint the town blue with sidewalk chalk!

Starting at the Wilderness Committee office (46 E. 6th Avenue, view map) we’ll split up into teams and head down to Vancouver’s seawall to make our mark on the city’s iconic imagery – by identifying places that could be underwater if Canada doesn’t start taking real climate action. The last team will leave the office at 6:30 p.m. and the evening will finish before 9 p.m.

Just this week, a new study revealed that climate change is causing sea levels to rise at a faster rate than in 2,800 years. We need to remind our political leaders that Canada can’t afford to wait any longer to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and tackle the climate crisis.

If you don’t live in the Vancouver area or can’t make it on Wednesday, don’t worry – you can still take part!

Go to a place in your community that’s threatened by rising seas or flash floods and take a selfie in your rain gear. Then post it on social media on Thursday, March 3rd with the hashtag #SeaLevelUprising. Don’t forget to tag your favourite (or least favourite) Premier and Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau on Twitter!

Please RSVP to our Facebook event to let us know you’ll join us! We will have a contingency plan if weather foils our sidewalk chalk plans, so check on Facebook or on ourr0
