WHEN
Wednesday, April 13th at 12pm EST

WHERE
On Twitter using hashtags #SamaraChat & #voterequality. And if you have room, add #cdnpoli to draw in a larger audience of Canadians discussing politics.

Here is how you can access the discussion:
Beginning at 12pm EST on Wednesday, April 13th, type #SamaraChat into the search bar to read Samara's questions and read other participants’ responses
- In your response, remember to use #SamaraChat and... #voterequality to participate in the conversation.

Samara has will be leading the discussion with these questions (these are not FVC questions):

  • What is the problem that electoral reform is meant to solve? What’s wrong with our current system?
  • Different voting systems prioritize different (and sometimes competing) values, such as simplicity, representation, group power or individual power. What values should we prioritize when designing a new voting system?
  • We know most Canadians have historically not been interested in electoral reform—although they do recognize that our democracy is not working for them. How can a consultative process produce interest in the conversation?
  • If you could sit down with parliamentarians including Minister Monsef tomorrow, what advice would you give them about undertaking electoral reform?

This Twitter chat will set the stage for a panel the following day at the University of Ottawa: http://www.ivote-jevote.ca/en/

So your participation in the twitterchat is important!

The event will feature the Hon. Minister of Democratic Institutions Maryam Monsef, Nik Nanos (Nanos Research), Heather Scoffield (Canadian Press), Mike Pal (University of Ottawa), Jonathan Rose (Queen’s University), Henry Milner (Université de Montréal), Tom Flanagan (University of Calgary), Nathalie Des Rosiers (University of Ottawa) plus sitting Members of Parliament, including Scott Reid (CPC), Nathan Cullen (NDP), Elizabeth May (Green Party).

Fair Vote Canada will be at this event and will be tweeting live so be sure to follow @fairvotecanada for live updates.
