EVENT: Surfrider Earth Day Film Screening: The Clean Bin Project

DATE: Thursday April 21st door open 6 pm (all ages welcome)

LOCATION: Victoria Event Centre 1415 Broad St.

On April 21st, Surfrider Vancouver Island will be screening "The Clean Bin Project", a documentary about couple who compete to see who can produce the least garbage over the course of a year! This event aims to highlight the unnecessary single-use waste that often makes its way into the marine environment such as plastic bags, straws, coffee cups and plastic bottles. Surfrider Vancouver Island launched a Ban the Bag campaign on Earth Day last year and our goal is to have a ban in place by Earth Day 2017! The Clean Bin Project highlights what we can live without, and plastic bags is on the top of the list!

About the film:

Is it possible to live completely waste free? In this multi-award winning, festival favorite, partners Jen and Grant go head to head in a competition to see who can swear off consumerism and produce the least garbage. Their lighthearted competition is set against a darker examination of the problem waste. Captivating interviews with renowned artist, Chris Jordan and TED Lecturer Captain Charles Moore, make this film a fun and inspiring call to individual action that speaks to crowds of all ages.

Filmmakers and local zero-waste champions will be in attendance for a Q&A and casual panel discussion after the film.

Community guests:

Lise Richard: living waste-free, helping Esquimalt Farmers Market go waste-free too!

Tara and Katelin: two women who steered their entire families to live waste-free for one year.

Dr. Bryson Robertson: who traveled around the globe educating youth in rural communities about the devastating affects of marine debris.
