Dear Paov,
A few weeks ago, we learned that the Raven Coal Mine proposal is gone for good.
Now, it’s time to celebrate and get back to the work of building a better future.
On Tuesday, May 10th, join us for a powerful evening celebrating environmental justice and labour rights at Solstice Café in Victoria.
We’ll start with the Victoria premiere of Goodwin’s Way, a new documentary about legendary labour activist Ginger Goodwin and a former Vancouver Island coal town that is grappling with its past.
After the film, a panel discussion on the intersectionality of environmental and labour activism will be hosted by Kelly Newhook, a social justice advocate and director of Together Against Poverty Society.
I’ll be a panelist, speaking to the experience of supporting communities in the Comox and Alberni Valley's to fight, and defeat the Raven Coal Mine. Joining me on the panel will be Goodwin’s Way director Neil Vokey and Robin Toszak of the Victoria District Labour Council.
What: Film screening + panel discussion
Where: Solstice Café, 529 Pandora Ave, Victoria
When: 7pm (doors at 7, film screening 7:30-8:30, panel discussion 8:30)
Invite your friends
Throughout the evening, we’ll raise a glass to the defeat of the Raven Coal Mine and the power of people standing together for a secure future and a healthy environment.
The forces that seek to destroy the planet for profit are the same forces that exploit workers and destabilize communities. By standing together we are stronger, and we have the ability to create a safe and just future.
I hope to see you there!
