Our new government is currently under intense pressure from oil lobbyists to continue Harper’s dream of turning Canada into a fossil fuel superpower. There’s a push to expand fracking in BC, build pipelines to the coasts, save coal plants in Alberta and weaken climate action.1,2,3,4

But now we have a major opportunity to turn things around, and give the federal government the mandate it needs to make Canada a climate leader. This week, the government is holding another round of climate town halls, seeking input into their National Climate Strategy. One of these is being hosted in Esquimalt.

This is a chance for you and your community to have a direct say in the National Climate Strategy, and push back against fossil fuel lobbyists who are scrambling to block progress on climate. Space is limited, so make sure to RSVP today.

This week is the culmination of weeks of work by the Leadnow community and dozens of national and grassroots groups across the country that are part of the People’s Climate Plan. Together, we’ve been pushing MPs to host town halls, identifying local leaders who can mobilize their communities and building a national story the government can’t ignore.

Check out this short video we just released to learn more about the People’s Climate Plan.

When Environment Minister Catherine McKenna held the very first town hall, we helped mobilize over 300 people to attend. In fact, so many people RSVP’d that they started turning people away and promised to schedule a second town hall. If we can do this in ridings across the country, the government will know there’s a thirst for climate action.

The climate crisis is already affecting our communities and our families. From the wildfires in Western Canada to super typhoons in the South Pacific, we’re already seeing the effects of climate change.5,6

That’s why the People’s Climate Plan is calling for a National Climate Strategy that is based on science, builds a 100% renewable energy economy and ensures a just transition for people and planet.

Help us make this plan a reality by attending Randall Garrison's town hall in Esquimalt.

For years, the Leadnow community has been working to push the government on taking bold climate action. Under Harper, the best we could do was try to stop or delay his dreams of making Canada into a fossil fuel superpower.

Now that we’ve defeated him, we can actually dream big. We’ve never been closer to getting a strong national climate plan, but it will only become a reality if we show we are stronger than the fossil fuel lobbyists.

RSVP to the town hall in Esquimalt today to have a say in the National Climate Strategy.

Thanks for all that you do.

With hope and respect,
Rodrigo, Mike, Logan and Jamie on behalf of the Leadnow team
