First we wish to thank those who have contributed to the rent of the CAIA Billboard. The donations are allowing us to plan for several months. HOWEVER........
Our Duncan billboard has attracted the the attention of people wishing to deny the rights of the indigenous Palestinians. They convinced the Cowichan Nation to insist the billboard sign be removed. The usual misinformation that the wording was racist was apparently given. In deference to and with respect to the Cowichan Band, CAIA Active Committee decided to comply and take the billboard down until we could meet with the Band Council.
We have yet been unable to meet with the Council. SO WE ASK OUR SUPPORTERS TO EMAIL, MAIL OR TELEPHONE IN SUPPORT OF OUR BILLBOARD.
Please do so with respect. Explain that the Palestinians are the indigenous people suffering colonialism as the natives of North America have. ... Immigrants have stolen most of their land (less than 16% remains) and are denying the human rights of the native Palestinians both Muslim and Christian. Their houses are being demolished, cisterns destroyed, wells polluted so that they must purchase water from Israel, adults and children being beaten and imprisoned, olive trees being uprooted, and whole villages being repeatedly destroyed. The billboard is about the Israeli Government's actions.

We hope to meet with the Band Council in a week. But we need to counter those wishing to silence news of what is happening in Palestine.
