Dear Paov,
On Friday, July 22, will you join us in Port Alberni to stand up for healthy forests and local jobs?
The forest industry on Vancouver Island needs an overhaul. For decades, the BC government has made decisions on forest management that benefit a handful of corporations and the politicians that support them – to the detriment of ecosystems and workers.
Recently, we issued a new report, which made several recommendations on how to manage forests on Vancouver Island in a way that protects endangered ecosystems and the forestry jobs that still support many communities.
A healthy forest industry needs healthy forests, so environmentalists and forest workers share common ground. That’s why we’re helping to organize a rally with The Public and Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) and Unifor – two unions advocating for better forestry policy.
What: Rally for Healthy Forests and Sustainable Forestry
Where: Gather at Johnson Rd + Gertrude St, March to Victoria Quay for Rally
When: 11am on July 22 (march to start afterwards)
Invite your friends and family, and RSVP on our Facebook page too.
It’s time to end log exports and prioritize local mill production while setting aside remaining old-growth rainforests on Vancouver Island. We’re excited to stand with forest industry workers and advocate for that!
We hope to see you there!
For healthy rainforests and a sustainable future,
