Dear Paov,
We’ve heard the federal government talk tough with the provinces on Canada’s climate targets. Now it’s time for them to step up.
BC’s recent photo-op disguised as a climate plan will do absolutely nothing to make sure it meets its legislated climate goals, but it still wants to build a climate-wrecking LNG terminal on its North Coast.
Pacific Northwest LNG will emit 11 megatonnes of carbon pollution annually, more than all the vehicles, buildings and landfills in Metro Vancouver.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna has said she wants to see a plan for BC to meet its climate targets as a condition for approval – that clearly has not happened.
Now the federal government’s only option is to reject the project.
It cannot possibly accept BC’s widely-criticized climate plan as a justification for its ambitions to build a brand new polluting fossil fuel industry.
With warming waters bringing us the worst salmon run in history, BC’s cynical disregard for its climate targets is unacceptable and irresponsible.
Please use this letter writing tool to tell Prime Minister Trudeau and his cabinet to act in BC’s absence and reject Pacific Northwest LNG.
Write your letter today! It’s time for a climate wake-up call. That’s why on September 13th we’re ramping up our efforts. We’re asking all those opposed to this disastrous project to call Minister McKenna’s office at 613.946.8682 and tweet her at @ec_minister and tell her why!
