Encourage BC's Opposition to speak against the destruction of the Walbran Valley

Dear Paov,

This #WalbranWednesday we’re calling on John Horgan, BC Opposition Leader, to stand with communities, businesses and the majority of citizens who are calling for the protection of the Central Walbran Valley.

RSVP

For over a year, logging corporation Teal Jones and the BC government have ignored calls from municipal governments, businesses, Indigenous activists and thousands of citizens to halt the destruction of the intact Central Walbran Valley.

Less than 10 per cent of low-elevation old-growth rainforest remains intact on Vancouver Island, and there is no economic or environmental rationale for liquidating the remainder in places like the Walbran Valley.

The Union of BC Municipalities and the BC Chamber of Commerce have passed motions calling for an end to old-growth logging, and it's time for BC's Official Opposition to take a strong stand on this critical issue

On #WalbranWednesday, we're encouraging YOU to call on John Horgan to oppose the destruction of the Central Walbran Valley.

You’ve written letters, signed petitions and made phone calls to the Premier and Minister of Forests. You’ve shown your support at public events and on the steps of the Supreme Court of BC. You’ve fought for the Walbran at rallies and demonstrations, and out in the Valley itself.

Now we need BC’s Official Opposition to stand up for old-growth inside the BC Legislature.

Find out John Horgan’s contact information here.

This past winter, Teal Jones clearcut vast swathes of old-growth rainforest on the south side of the Walbran Valley, and could move into cutblock 4424 on the north side of the river at any time.

This situation is urgent, and the Leader of the Opposition needs to know that one of southern Vancouver Island’s last intact old-growth forests must be top priority.

We encourage you to give us a call, send us an email or post on the #WalbranWednesday Facebook page to let us know how your conversation went!
