The stakes for health care in May’s election just went way up:
This month B.C. allowed Anbang, a massive multinational investment corporation, to take over the biggest chain of seniors care homes in B.C. - even as serious concerns about Anbang’s ownership and intentions go unanswered. [1]
That same week, for-profit blood brokers confirmed they plan to harvest blood plasma from people in B.C. to sell at a huge profit on the international market - starting with a collection clinic in Kelowna. So far the province refuses to stop them - even though Canadian Blood Services says letting pay-for-plasma into B.C. will hurt our ability to collect the blood B.C. patients need. [2]
The B.C. government needs to... understand they have a choice: defend the health system we all rely on or pay the price at the ballot box.
Let B.C.’s political parties know that their commitment to defend health care will win or lose them your vote by making your pledge to vote for health care here.
These recent stories aren’t the only concern: many people still can’t find a family doctor, unaddressed poverty is making people sick, and our wait times for some surgeries are among the longest in the country.
The provincial election is just 7 weeks away. If enough of us commit to vote for health care, we can make defending and improving public health care a top priority for parties. Pledge to vote for health care now.
We know what people power can do: last month, after thousands of citizens like you sent messages, signed petitions, and got active in your communities, the BC government announced they plan to cut MSP fees in half starting in 2018. While this is only a half answer to the public’s demands, it’s clear there would have been no reduction in the fees without public pressure.
Now B.C.’s candidates and parties need to hear that voters like you will be weighing their positions on health care when you vote in May.
If you sign the pledge, we’ll report back to you before the election with a guide showing where each party stands on key health care issues so that you have the info you need to make your decision.
Selling out on seniors care in a high-risk investment scheme. Threatening our public blood supply. So many living without a family doctor. This is not the future I want for the people of B.C.
Please join me in sending a strong message to all the provincial parties: we want action to defend and strengthen Canada’s most treasured service. Pledge to vote for public health care in 2017.
Thank you for all you do,
Edith
P.S. Here's how the vote pledge works:
You sign the pledge joining others in B.C. who have committed to vote in support of public health care
We report back to you showing where B.C. candidates and their parties stand on key health care issues.
Together, we get out to vote for public health care making sure the next government has a strong mandate to support and strengthen public health care.
P.P.S. We’re working all-out to get the health care vote out for May 9th. We have a small but mighty team working in close ridings and we need your help to grow our impact. The more people who chip in, the more health care voters we can get to the polls. Can you help us make sure health care wins at the ballot box by chipping in here?
