TD wont like this stunt

Kinder Morgan’s under “financial distress”, and desperately looking for investors to back its risky, climate-killing Trans Mountain pipeline.[1-2]

They’re relying on TD bank to help them find investors -- but Leadnow members are turning up the heat on TD to dump Kinder Morgan. Already more than 23,000 have signed a petition to TD, and we’re getting ready to deliver it at their Annual Shareholders Meeting (ASM) in Toronto this Thursday.

TD’s top shareholders, clients, and the media will all be at the shareholder meeting, where TD will be especially vulnerable to public pressure. So instead of just delivering your petition, we want to make a huge spectacle that will put TD into damage control mode. It could be enough to get them to dump Kinder Morgan, but only if enough people chip in to make it happen. With only 3 days to go we have to act fast.

Donate to get TD to #DumpKinderMorgan!

  • If we raise $5000 we can organize a media stunt with visuals designed to attract TV news cameras. Picture barrels of spilling oil, actors playing TD executives, and hard-hitting signs and banners.

  • If we raise $10,000 we can rent a giant jumbotron truck to display messages from Leadnow community. We’ve already confirmed that there’s a truck available, we just need to confirm the budget.

TD invests millions in branding themselves as socially responsible. The last thing TD wants is to be associated with environmental destruction, social opposition, or dirty money -- in front of TV cameras and their own shareholders.

The contract with Kinder Morgan is just a tiny fraction of TD’s business. If we can turn it into a major public relations problem, it will be easier for TD to dump Kinder Morgan than spending thousands on damage control.

Everyone in the financial community will be watching what happens at TD’s shareholders meeting: major hedge funds, institutional investors, the financial news, as well as potential and existing TD shareholders.

If we make TD the newest Kinder Morgan punching bag, it will serve as a warning shot to all investors considering backing the pipeline: if you do business with Kinder Morgan, you’ll face protests and brand attacks. For investors, this means delays, headaches, added costs that just aren’t worth it.

If we convince TD to drop Kinder Morgan -- while scaring potential investors out of backing Kinder Morgan -- it could sink Kinder Morgan for good. If they don’t secure financial backing in mere months, they’ll have to push back their construction start date, and they can’t afford more delays.

The demise of Kinder Morgan’s Trans-Mountain pipeline could start this week at TD’s shareholder meeting, but only if we make the action as big and flashy as possible.

Can you chip in to make sure we can organize a powerful demonstration with a giant jumbotron and exciting media stunt at TD’s shareholder meeting?
