Download FileDear Friends of SJS,
Course offered by Mosqoy and the UN-mandated University for Peace
We are excited to announce that Mosqoy's Field School is partnering with
The Human Rights Centre at the United Nations-mandated
University for Peace to launch a new hybrid e-learning + field certificate course on
Cultural Rights and Development: The Realities of Globalization in the Andes, which will be offered from
September 25 to November 3, 2017.
This exciting new
hybrid e-learning and field course will critically examine gender, development, and cultural rights, in the face of globalization and change. The course will look at the discrepancies between these rights in theory and practice, focusing on how they translate into the realities of the Quechua people. Profits from this field course will directly support Mosqoy's charitable programs.
The first 4 weeks of the course will be conducted online through the UPEACE Human Rights Centre, and will include an in-depth study... of economic, social, and cultural (ESC) rights in Latin America, highlighting cultural and development rights. The second portion of the course will consist of a 2-week immersion field study based in Cusco, Peru, where participants will travel to remote communities of the Andean mountains to reflect upon and critically examine the implementation of development theories, as well as explore community perspectives on the fulfillment of these rights. Participants will have the opportunity to get off the beaten tourist tracks, visiting Indigenous weaving communities and remote populations, to engage in local dialogues regarding sustainable development, and gender, cultural, and economic rights.
Applications close

#StandforTruth Campaign
Hello Everyone,
Pacific Peoples’ Partnership has recently had the honor of participating in the development of the #StandForTruth campaign by the Coalition for the Preservation of Truth. This is an important continuation of our work to safeguard truth in a number of different contexts across the Pacific, including by participating in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the Solomon Islands, the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation in East Timor, and our advocacy work in West Papua.
On behalf of Carey Newman (Founder of the Coalition; Artist of the Witness Blanket) and the Coalition for the Preservation of Truth, please find a short letter outlining the recent launch of our #StandForTruth campaign. Our campaign aims to raise awareness around the importance of truth and the rights of residential school survivors and intergenerational residential school survivors.
A video explaining our message can be found at gofundme.com/standfortruth
We urgently need the support of you and your organization to ensure our message is heard widely. We invite you to review the attached letter which outlines ways in which you can provide support. Comments and videos can be sent directly to this address. Please do not hesitate to connect if you have any questions or concerns.
Best,
