SUMMIT CONFERENCE: SPEAKERS, PANELS AND WORKSHOPS

Saturday, May 13 from 10:00am-5:30 pm

This provincial summit aims to inspire action for a culture of peace and nonviolence and policies for disarmament. Themes: Canadian foreign policy and defence policy, nuclear disarmament, gender and militarism, peace education, art and activism!

Key note speaker: Jamie Swift, co-author of the new book The Vimy Trap, or, How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Great War, which has been short-listed for the Sir John A. Macdonald Prize in Canadian history and the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, author Jamie Swift provides a critical examination at Canada’s participation in the bloody First World War and confronts our history of militarism. Swift is also the co-author of the book Warrior Nation: Rebranding Canada in the Age of Anxiety and a co-founder of Peace Quest.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge, author Jamie Swift provides a critical examination at Canada’s participation in the bloody First World War and challenges the myth that Canada came of age by warfighting.

Other featured speakers include former seaman Nicola Peffers author of Refuge in the Black Deck about military sexual violence and US Army veteran Bill Geimer author of Canada: The Case for Staying Out of Other People’s Wars. Books will be available for sale.
