PeerNetBC Youth Summer Series

Do you know a young person who is 25 or younger? Are they interested in being part of a youth-friendly space that allows them to explore and discuss issues that affect them while building capacity? If so, please do pass on this opportunity to them to be a part of our Youth Summer Series this August where we will be running free, youth-only workshops centred around topics that pertain to youth! From unpacking the structures that youth navigate, to building capacity to influence how they become a part of certain spaces, these workshops are great for any young person interested in using experience and story to engage in experiential learning.

Cost: Free! Available to Youth aged 25 and under only. Food will be provdided to participants

Capitalism: What's the Alternative?
Monday, August 28th, 2017 4:00pm – 8:30pm

Okay so maybe this sounds really intense because capitalism is an economic system we live within - so to be clear this workshop is focused on exploring and seeking to understand the ways in which this economic system affects us, as young people, particularly in regards to competition. Why do we feel like we have to compete with our peers, and where does this feeling stem from? What are the consequences of competition - how does it impact our lives - and what alternatives can we shift toward? Join us in a new workshop topic never offered before (by PeerNetBC) as we reflect on our own experiences and learn from each other.

Youth Engagement & Decision Making: Are You at the Table
Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 4:00pm – 8:30pm

Have you ever been a part of a program or project run or initiated by adults? Chances are, very likely, even if we may not know it. This is an example of "Youth Engagement". Ever been asked for thoughts and opinions about a particular issue? Maybe we have had an opportunity to be at the "decision-making table" before. In this workshop, we will unpack what it really means for anyone to participate in "Youth Engagement" and work to collectively define what meaningful decision-making can look like for, and as young people. Perhaps this can help inform the work we are doing in school, at work, in the community and in our own lives. Come take part to see where this conversation can take us!.

Accessibility:

Please arrive 5 – 10 minutes early so we can start on time
Food, Light snacks, coffee, tea, and water will be provided; if you have any dietary requirements we should be aware of please inform us
Our office strives to be a scent-free environment – refrain from wearing perfumes or any scents the day before the workshop, as well as during it
The building entrance, workshop space, and washrooms are wheelchair accessible
Washrooms will be assigned all genders during workshop hours
Our office is located one block south of Waterfront Skytrain Station and nearby to bus stops at the intersections of West Hastings, Seymour, and Granville Street
Parking is only available on the street 2 hours at a time; we recommend the parkade behind our office at 443 Seymour Street ($6 + tax all day on weekends; 6:00pm onward on weekdays)
Bicycles are welcome to be stored in the small room in our office
All workshops will have ASL interpreturs if needed. Please let us know when you register if that is something that help make this workshop opportunity accessible for you
