Dear Paov,

Wow. Over 2000 of you responded to our survey telling us what your health care priorities are for the new government.

Thank you.

Looking at the results, the top issue you care about is ending MSP fees. You made it clear that it’s time to eliminate unfair MSP premiums and integrate these fees into B.C.’s regular income tax system.

Coming in at a close second and third were solving surgical wait times and improving seniors care.

You believe the government needs to introduce proven public solutions to shorten waits for everyone, not just those who can pay.

You told us that the government needs to address the... decline in access to public home and community care that is leaving many seniors unsupported, caregivers overburdened, and hospitals overcrowded.

Top priority for the new government

Next, we asked you to choose your next 3 health care priorities for government to tackle during their first year in office.

You made it clear that prescription drugs should be made more affordable for all Canadians and that the government should support team-based care so that primary care access doesn’t only rely on a limited supply of doctors. Other priorities include implementing a poverty reduction plan, addressing the opioid crisis, improving access to mental health care, and banning private blood collection.

Many of you gave us your thoughts and stories that weren’t included in the initial survey options and provided additional comments. Thank you. Your input gives us a deeper understanding of health care issues that matter to you.

We commit to working hard to make these health care issues a priority for the new government.

We will be raising your issues directly with Health Minister Adrian Dix and Mental Health and Addictions Minister Judy Darcy at in-person meetings soon, as well as several other MLAs and public officials.

But we can’t do it without your support.

The BC Health Coalition relies on the support of individuals like you in advocating for stronger public health care solutions that will benefit all British Columbians. Will you sign up to donate $5, $10, $15, or $20 a month to support the BC Health Coalition?
