Stop the Ajax Mine
Keep destructive mining out of the Kamloops area

Dear Paov,

We have an urgent opportunity to stop the Ajax mine once and for all.

A view of Jacko Lake at the June 11th, 2017 designation

KGHM Ajax Mining Inc. is proposing to construct the Ajax open-pit copper and gold mine near the city of Kamloops, British Columbia.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) is inviting public comments until October 10, 2017 on a joint federal-provincial comprehensive study and assessment of the project.

The Stk’emlupsemc te Secwepemc Nation (SSN) representing the First Nation communities in the area conducted their own thorough 18-month review of the project and have said NO to the Ajax mine project.

The SSN reviewed 20,000 pages of information and over 300 reports. They held a public comment period and heard from over 80 experts at an oral panel hearing. From what they learned the SSN determined that the project is too risky for the health and well-being of the Secwepemc and everyone else. The proposed location at Pípsell is a sacred, culturally and historically important site to the First Nations – not the location for a mine.

Write your comments to the CEAA now!

The federal government has committed to a fairer environmental assessment process and to respecting the rights and title of Indigenous Peoples. Now is the time to show they are serious by rejecting the Ajax mine for good.

The Wilderness Committee was honoured to be present on June 11th, 2017 when Pípsell was officially designated as a Secwepemc National Cultural Heritage Site.

Write now and tell the CEAA that we want a cultural heritage site – not a destructive mine project.
