This Giving Tuesday the team at RAVEN are inviting you to play a role in the incredible victories that Indigenous Peoples are achieving through the courts. In case after case, you've stepped up to support First Nations as they lead the way to climate justice, putting reconciliation into action to protect what matters most.

RAVEN's support for strategic legal actions by Indigenous Nations successfully stopped the Enbridge pipeline: we're using the same winning strategy to tackle the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion with our Pull Together campaign.

Now, we're focussing on stopping tar sands at the source with the historic Beaver Lake Cree Tarsands Trial.

The Beaver Lake Cree live on the front lines of the destructive tar sands mining. This nation of 900 people are suing Canada and Alberta to stop the over-development of so-called “in situ” (underground) tar sands extraction — the most toxic and destructive form of oil production — and to save what remains of their homeland and its resources.

When you donate on Giving Tuesday, you will be supporting what could potentially be the biggest court battle in Canada’s history – Beaver Lake Cree Nation versus the unmitigated expansion of the Alberta tar sands. Beaver Lake Cree’s cumulative effects case will be the first time the court will have to consider whether the Crown has crossed the line when authorizing industrial development without meaningful regard to Treaty rights. In this way, the case serves as a vital precedent for Treaty Nations, and indeed all Canadians. The health of our entire ecosystem is at stake.


For the sake of the remaining sacred lands where the Beaver Lake Cree practice their culture and rights, and for the sake of a livable climate for all of us: please donate on Giving Tuesday.
