Dear Paov --

B.C. is the only province without a Poverty Reduction Plan.

As of May 2016, inequality in B.C. was the highest in Canada and increasing at a faster rate than most other provinces. [1] This is completely unacceptable.

Click here to take action on poverty reduction.

But we know that reducing poverty and inequality can save lives, improve health outcomes, and save billions in health care spending.

During the provincial election, thousands of you stood up and helped elect a government on a public health care mandate including a strong commitment to implement a Poverty Reduction Plan.... [2]

Now we need to tell the government what a plan should look like.

The BC government is inviting public input on what poverty reduction should look like through a number of in-person community meetings throughout the province over the next couple months.

If you and thousands of other supporters pack out the community meetings, the government will be forced to listen and implement a strong, comprehensive poverty reduction plan with a legislated timeline and targets because of an immense showing of people power.

Will you attend a community meeting near you? Click here for the full list of meeting locations and times and ways to take action.

Our friends at the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition put together a great guide that will help you highlight key messages and policies. You can also use this one-page poster as well.

Together, we can make sure the Poverty Reduction Plan has the greatest impact by taking an upstream approach by focusing on the social determinants of health.

For those unable to attend a community meeting, you can give your opinions and feedback online, by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots.
