Paov —
We can do amazing things when we act together.
Just last week, the province
announced a historic strategy to dramatically reduce surgical wait
times and modernize our surgical system - by acting on recommendations
we have been making for years.
But the good news doesn’t stop there.
Today, Health Minister Adrian
Dix announced another huge investment in our public system—this time
in MRIs and diagnostics. This public investment means an
additional 37,000 MRI exams across the province this
year so that British
Columbians can get timely scans—and ultimately timely
health care. [1]
For too long B.C. has allowed public MRI waits to grow while
allowing a market for private MRI clinics to flourish. When faced... with long public waits, many
patients were forced to consider paying up to $1,000
per scan at private, for-profit clinics. [2]
The BC Health Coalition applauds this
huge public investment in MRIs in order to reduce diagnostic wait
times and ensure our health care is based on need, not ability to pay.
We’re thrilled this BC government is listening to the
thousands of everyday people—like
you—who took action to demand public
solutions for wait times.
[3]
Now, we need to make sure NDP MLAs
and BC government representatives hear your support as they move
forward and follow through on their commitment to increase capacity in
our public health care system.
Thanks,
Rick Turner
