Last week, the federal government announced that it intends to start construction on the Trans Mountain pipeline in August. Now, just one day before the government’s July 22nd deadline to find a buyer for its $4.5 billion bailout disaster, it’s become clear that Prime Minister Trudeau is going to do everything in his power to push this dirty pipeline through.
We’ve crunched the numbers, and if we’re going to sustain our Kinder Morgan campaign through the summer and keep bulldozers out of the ground, we need your help.
We need to raise at least $12,000 to keep organizing mass mobilizations, support the Kwekwecnewtxw Watch House, and coordinate demonstrations at the gates of the Westridge oil tanker terminal.
We’re throwing everything we have at stopping this pipeline, but we need your help to keep it going. Here are just some of things your donation will help fund:
Prime Minister Trudeau and his Liberal government thinks that if they sit quietly for long enough, public opposition will die down and they won't lose any seats in the next election over this.
Resistance to this dirty oil pipeline is only growing. Over 220 people have been arrested at the gates of Kinder Morgan’s tank farm and oil tanker terminal, some even risking a week in jail. Earlier in July, Kwekwecnewtxw leader Will George suspended himself from a bridge alongside Greenpeace activists, blocking tanker traffic for two days, and Secwepemc Tiny House Warriors have occupied land further east along the pipeline route.
In a recent poll, more than 1 in 8 British Columbians said they feel so strongly about protecting the coast, the climate and local communities from Kinder Morgan that they’d be willing to engage in civil disobedience to make sure the pipeline never gets built. Together, we are creating history.
Help us continue to provide key support to the movement to stop Trans Mountain.
The Stand.earth community has consistently supported frontline resistance against Kinder Morgan. Your actions have already helped stall this pipeline by 3 years. Together, our community has sent hundreds of thousands of letters to politicians, made hundreds of phone calls, showed up at rallies, and kept up a constant stream of reminders on Trudeau's social media pages. Last fall, you raised nearly $13,500 to fund First Nations legal challenges and support Tiny House Warriors opposing Kinder Morgan in Secwepemc territory. And when Kinder Morgan slapped peaceful protesters with an outrageous injunction earlier this spring, you stepped in and raised more than $13,000 in just two days to pay for legal defence costs.
If you’ve already given to support this campaign, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And if you’re able, it’s time to step up again – this is the fight of a lifetime, and we can’t let up know.
Will you donate now Supa to sustain the opposition and make sure this pipeline never gets built?
In solidarity,
Sven Biggs
