We shot it on Leyte Island in the Philippines, where my Mother was born and raised and where the strongest storm in recorded history made landfall in 2013. It stars real survivors of a climate disaster alongside Canadian Comedy Award Winners Aaron Read and Kayla Lorette. It was Executive Produced by Naomi Klein, The Yes Men and Mark Achbar (director of The Corporation and Noam Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent). Adam Mckay, the Oscar winning writer/director of Anchorman, Step Brothers, The Other Guys and The Big Short has privately screened our film and said: “Wow. That’s a beautiful film. Never seen anything like it.” Last week we had our World Premiere at Mumbai’s Indian Cine Film Festival where we were in competition with 100+ films from 20 countries. The festival jury awarded us the prize for ‘Best Director’.
Now you will have a chance to see it at very limited festival screenings in Vancouver October 4th & 7th @ The Vancouver International Film Festival (Tickets Available Here) and October 11th @ The Famous Players Canada Square Cinema in Toronto (Tickets Available Here). This fall the film will simultaneously be touring international festivals in the UK, Spain, Greece and Brazil.
Finally, we’ve launched a small campaign to help bring our Filipino cast members to some of these festivals. Please check it out and consider the impact your support could have, including potentially saving the life of our friend, cast member and frontline climate activist Marissa Cabaljao - who faces the threat of assassination for her vital work.
Thank you for your continued support of our creative political efforts. I’m really excited for you to see this film.
Warmly,
Sean
